the best one of all :D
Kira-Kira by Cynthia KadohataIt's the hand soap. LOL , jkjk.
Lynn and Katie are two sisters whose family moves from Japan to Georgia. There, they experience poverty because of their parents unabling to find jobs and racial discrimination. Yet, even in the face of these adversaries, nothing seems difficult for Lynn. Her handwriting is neat, her report card is an unwavering stream of straight A's, and her future is "kira-kira" (glittering in Japanese). Katie strains unsuccessfully to live up to Lynn's example. As Lynn enters her teen years, the sisters drift apart and Katie struggles with middle-child loneliness.
Journey to the River Sea by Eva IbbotsonDespite all of her classmates' views of the Amazon River,Maia isn't put off by the gruesome descriptions offered by her classmates, because Maia is the one who is making the journey. She is travelling to Manaus to join her only living relatives, after the devastating loss of her parents in a terrible train accident.
Century by Sarah SingletonThis is a gothic fantasy, and sounds
spooky :D
It tells the story of two sisters, Charity and Mercy (ahaha), who are stuck in a house called Century. It is always in winter darkness, where spring never comes and everyday is the same. They are taken care of by a housekeeper and a governess. Mercy sometimes sees ghosts in the house too. Things start to change when Mercy discovers a snowdrop on her pillow - a mysterious occuerence, which leads to her meeting a man who claims that she can meet her mother, who passed away, and then to Mercy, being put in dangerous situations while seeking to uncover the truth about her family history.
Skellig by David AlmondA beautiful and highly emotional story.
Emo people do not touch this book :B
When a move to a new house coincides with his baby sister's illness, Michael's world seems suddenly lonely and uncertain. Then, one Sunday afternoon, he stumbles into the old, ramshackle garage of his new home, and finds something magical. A strange creature - part owl, part angel, a being who needs Michael's help if he is to survive. With his new friend Mina, Michael nourishes the angel, Skellig, back to health, while his baby sister languishes in the hospital. But Skelling is far more than he at first appears, and as he helps Michael breathe life into his tiny sister, Michael's world changes forever...
Private Peaceful by MichaelThis is a truly dramatic and moving book.
If you love very, very detailed descriptions, read this book.
Heroism or cowardice? A stunning story of the First World War from a master storyteller. Told in the voice of a young soldier, the story follows 24 hours in his life at the front during World War 1, and captures his memories as he looks back over his life.
Rice Bowl by Su-chen Christine Lim
Set in the late 1960s when Singapore, this novel offers a critique of the nation’s new regulated democracy and politics. The authorial voice that emerges is a socially conscious one which levels harsh criticism against the authoritarian politics involved in the creation of a highly disciplined community, focussed on achieving economic progress
(that's awfully cheem)
Pig-Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman
This book is so oink-ful. I'm so going to read this.
Cameron is 13 years old and desperately in need of a heart transplant, when a pioneering doctor approaches his family with a startling proposal. He can give Cameron a new heart - not from a human, but from a pig! LOL WHEEE
A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket
Need i say more? An amazing book.
A little depressing, but other than that,
it's strange.
Three orphans, Violet, Sunny and Klaus' life takes a turn when their parents die in a fire. However, Violet, the eldest child, would only inherit her parent's money when she is of age. They are then sent to live with an evil distant relative who will do whatever it takes to get his hands on their fortune. However, his evil plan is foiled by the three intelligent kids and they are sent to live with other terrible guardians. Unfortunately, Count Olaf, together with his evil gang, always strikes back to get the orphans' fortune, like disguising himself as a doctor to saw off their heads, and many times, the orphans escape. But it isn't always a happy ending, for at every ending of each book leaves a cliff-hanger, making you hungry for the next book.
This book is terribly popular, so please run to the library quick.
Artemis Fowl - The Wish List by Eoin Colfer
Another popular book. I have yet to read it.
fyi ; this book was advertised as being the second Harry Potter.
Artemis Fowl tells the gripping story of a clever yet sinister young boy who has discovered a secret world of "fairies". Not fairies as you would probably think of them e.g. cute with wings and star wands - more like a race of little people with limited magical skills. He uses this information to try and blackmail the Fairy race into giving him vast amounts of gold.Unfortunately for him, the fairy he tries to capture is a member of the fairy secret police force and his troubles are just beginning.
I'm sorry I can't find 'the wish list'.
